America is quickly eroding as a nation. Our political, economic, and social structures have collapsed, and life as we know it is quickly disappearing. To correct our decline, Republicans argue that we need less government, and Democrats argue that we need more government. Both parties claim understanding, but apparently neither has wisdom. Unfortunately, we have failed to consult God in our attempt to recover.
God’s word provides a clear illustration regarding where America is politically, economically, and socially in Genesis and Exodus. The demise of America parallels almost perfectly with the demise of the Israelites in Egypt. The similarities are eerily disturbing.
If God’s word is true, that we reap what we sow, then it is equally true that we, like the Israelites, control the harvest. The Israelites’ harvest included 430 years of bondage, and it is becoming increasingly apparent that America’s harvest will result in nothing less, but remember; we controlled the harvest.
American Heritage, Constitution, and Religion A warning from Charles Finney: “The Church must take right ground in regards to politics…. The time has come that Christians must vote for honest men and take consistent ground in politics … God cannot sustain this free and blessed country which we love and pray for unless the Church will take right ground. Politics are a part of religion in such a country as this and Christians must do their duty to the country as a part of their duty to God … He (God) will bless or curse this nation according to the course they (Christians) take in politics.” A warning from Benjamin Rush: “As Proverbs 29:2 accurately states: When the righteous—not the Republicans, the Democrats or any other party—but “When the righteous rule, people rejoice, when the wicked rule the people groan.” The love of correct principles—not the love of a party—is the key to effective political involvement; the government of this nation will blessed only to the extent that God-fearing and moral individuals are placed into office.” George Washington’s comment: “Excessive allegiance to any political party leads to corruption.” A warning from John Hancock: “I conjure you, by all that is dear, by all that is honorable, by all that is sacred, not only that ye pray but that you act. Remember that where citizen complacency rules, wrong principles and policies will abound; and when it comes to sound government, the enemy is seldom them, it is generally citizen apathy.”
No subject causes more irritation, frustration, and confusion than issues concerning government. God has timeless truths in the Bible for resolving the conflict between world politics and the righteousness of God’s kingdom. Misunderstanding these truths results in the actions of well-meaning Christians being viewed by the world as offensive, unloving, and hypocritical. The result causes major doubts in the credibility of the Church and limits belief in the loving message of the cross.
God’s Way, Not Politics brings a timely revelation to God’s people of truth in His Word, which has been buried “by the cares of the world” and rationalization of man’s action out of ignorance of God’s love for mankind and God’s promises of peace, concerning what He can and wants to do. May the Holy Spirit reveal through honest consideration of His Word what God is saying. It is time for the Church to recognize our significance as empowered citizens of the kingdom of God on earth and be the conduit of loving witnesses for good in achieving the purpose our Creator intends. Acceptance of His plan and ways will unblock our prayers for healing our land and hasten our Lord’s return.
