This Funeral Guide is written to help Family Members address the sobering, yet necessary, responsibilities of carrying out the many and often unrealized tasks involved in managing the Funeral of a Loved One. It offers helpful insights, cautions, instructions, and Biblical Resources for dealing with the emotional impact of the Loss of a Loved One and moving forward with one’s Life.

Pastors and Counselors can also use this Guide in preparation for and counseling of Family Members. Bereavement Support Groups will also benefit from this Guide.

The shock and trauma of the Death of Your Loved One will no doubt not be over before Family Members will have to be contacted to inform them of what has happened. Decisions will have to be made about the Mortuary Services to be secured. Arrangements with Your Loved Ones Spiritual Leader will have to be confirmed. Information will have to be gathered. Funeral Arrangements will have to be made. Support Arrangements for the Spouse and/or Children may have to be made. So much must be done and YOU may be the ONE to bring it all together! THIS Book will help YOU do it!

Samuel W. Hale Jr. is a graduate of the American Baptist College in Nashville, Tennessee, and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. His ministerial experience spans over forty years, including more than thirty years of pastoring, teaching, missions, religious journalism, and church ministry development.

He has participated in, helped plan, observed, and officiated in hundreds of funerals, including those of his parents, grandparents, relatives, and his own son.

He lives in Springfield, Illinois, where he has served as Pastor of the historic Zion Missionary Baptist Church for over twenty-seven years. He has been married for over forty years; he is the father of four children and has seven grandchildren.

Two of his main ministry objectives are reflected in Luke 24:54 (KJV)—“Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures”—and in Matthew 28:20 (KJV)—“… teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you …”
